Abstract:

The Health Authority – Abu Dhabi  (HAAD), the governmental regulator of the health sector in Abu Dhabi, supervises and promotes health research in the emirate.

HAAD has assembled the Abu Dhabi Health Research Council to govern health research in Abu Dhabi. The Health Research Council is comprised of members from government agencies and educational institutions engaged in health research.

HAAD regulates health research by setting research ethics policies to protect human subjects. HAAD promotes health research by screening research grant applications through Peer Review Committees (PRC) composed of local and international experts.

The Abu Dhabi Health Research Strategy has the following goals:

  1. Encourage research addressing Abu Dhabi’ priority health problems.
  2. Foster professional development of skilled researchers.
  3. Contribute to the economic diversification of the emirate’s economy.

HAAD encourages private sector investment in health research to achieve the goals of the health research strategy and works closely with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) and pharmaceutical companies to ensure high standards of excellence in the conduct of clinical trials and other human health research.
